Non-Operative Achilles Tendon Program – Phase 2
At 10-14 days from injury:
For two weeks –
Change into a removable below-knee adjustable orthosis set at 20-30 degrees, depending on the settings on the boot.
This can be removed for showering and the following exercise: 3 or 4 times a day, sit over the side of a couch or bed and do some gentle active dorsiflexion, never beyond 10 degrees of plantar flexion, and then back to the resting, hanging equinus position.
This allows the collagen fibres to start to line up but NEVER overdo it – more is not better as you do not want to over-lengthen the tendon while it heals
