Non-Operative Achilles Tendon Program – Phase 3
At 4 weeks from injury:
For two weeks –
Adjust the boot to 10-15 degrees of equinus.
Remove the boot for for showering and the following exercise: 3 or 4 times a day, sit over the side of a couch or bed and do some gentle active dorsiflexion, never beyond 10 degrees of plantar flexion, and then back to the resting, hanging equinus position.
Allowed to weight-bear through the toe of the boot to 10 to 15kg of pressure – you can check by pushing down on some scales. Continue to wear the boot at night. This continues to allow the collagen to line up but NOT HEAL LONG.
