Phase 4

At 6 weeks from injury:

For two weeks –

Bring the boot to zero, but place an adhesive wedge in the heel for about 5 degrees of equinus.

Remove the boot for for showering and the following exercise:  3 or 4 times a day, sit over the side of a couch or bed and do some gentle active dorsiflexion – now bringing the foot up to close to neutral – and then back to the resting, hanging equinus position.

Increase the weight-bearing in the boot so by 8 weeks from injury you are weight-bearing without the crutches.
